The active ageing intergroup of the European Parliament, which Claude Moraes MEP is the Vice-President for, hosted a key event in May as a part of the 8th European Day of Solidarity between generations which took place at the end of April.  There are number of disadvantages and obstacles that still prevent the equal participation of the young and the older generations across the European Union.

"The tough period starts now, difficult decisions must be taken to make the commitments of the Council a reality on the ground", said Mr Moraes.

The humanitarian situation of refugees within the EU and neighbouring countries was the focus of a plenary debate with Commission First Vice-President Frans Timmermans and Luxembourg's minister responsible for relations with the European Parliament during the Presidency of the Council of the EU, Nicolas Schmit, on Tuesday morning.
